should i see a physiotherapist, chiropractor or massage therapist? While all three therapies aim to reduce pain and improve mobility, they take different approaches. Physiotherapy focuses on exercise and movement retraining, Chiropractic care emphasizes spinal and peripheral joint alignment, and Massage Therapy targets muscle tension and circulation. At Cadence Physiotherapy, serving Toronto’s Beaches and Scarborough communities, our team collaborates to provide integrated care tailored to your needs.

do I need a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist or chiropractor? You don’t need a doctor’s referral to book an appointment with a physiotherapist, chiropractor, or massage therapist in Ontario. However, some insurance plans may require one for reimbursement. If you’re unsure, our team at Cadence Physiotherapy in the Beaches can help you navigate your extended health coverage before your first visit.

what should i expect during my first visit?During your initial visit at Cadence Physiotherapy, your clinician will take a detailed health history, perform a physical assessment, and discuss your goals. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of your diagnosis and a personalized treatment plan — often including hands-on therapy and specific exercises you can start right away.

how long will it take to see results from physiotherapy?Recovery time depends on your injury, activity level, and how consistently you follow your treatment plan. Many clients at Cadence Physiotherapy in Toronto’s Beaches and Scarborough notice improvement after just a few sessions, while others benefit from a structured program over several weeks. Your therapist will monitor your progress closely to ensure lasting results.

what should I wear to my first visit? For your first appointment at Cadence Physiotherapy in Toronto’s Beaches or Scarborough, we recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely. If you’re seeing a physiotherapist or chiropractor, shorts or leggings and a t-shirt work best for hands-on assessment and treatment (e.g., shorts for a knee or hip issue, a tank top or sports bra for a shoulder issue). Please remove your outdoor footwear! We recommend bringing your running shoes if you are booking a running assessment.
